Take a deep breath, jump in and start swimming.  That’s what you do when you enter a cold pool of water.  It’s the exact same thing when you decide it’s time to start senior dating online.  Navigating the online dating world can be tricky, but once you decide to conquer it, you can and will be successful.

If you have been out of the dating scene for awhile, it can be tricky, and senior dating online is no different.  Dating itself can take practice and the art of conversation is a learned skill.  But just like anything else, the more you do it, the more comfortable you will become with it.  Start nice and easy and don’t make things too complicated your first few times out there.  Have a friend or family member who knows you well help you to construct a great online profile.  You don’t want the profile to be too wordy, but you also want it to be long enough so the person reading it gets a feel for who you are.  That in itself is a bit intimidating; it’s hard to describe yourself in a couple of short paragraphs.  That’s why getting someone to help you write the profile is your best bet.

You’ll also want to use a current photograph, and not one taken thirty years ago with your ex-spouse.  Use a recent and friendly photograph; one that truly illuminates you and your personality.  Again, get advice from the people who know you best.  Don’t limit yourself to one  or two dating sites.  Spread yourself out there; there are certainly plenty to choose from.  You also need to remember that you are not alone in your online dating quest.  There are many seniors now using the Internet to find companionship and romance.  Take your time to find the quality person you are looking and know that you are not looking in vein.  There are plenty of senior dating sites out there and more popping up every day.

Keep things simple for the first date.  This means you don’t have to make any type of exotic plans for the evening.  After all, you’ve never met this person before and you’re not sure whether or not you’ll hit it off.  So keep that first date short in order to see if the two of you are mutually compatible.  Go for a walk, or grab a quick cup of coffee to see if you can sustain a conversation.  If things between you are awkward and stilted, it wasn’t meant to be.  If you hit it off, great!  You can make plans to share a longer date next time around.

Senior dating online is the wave of the future and the perfect opportunity to meet people you wouldn’t normally meet.  So take the plunge; the water may be cold at first, but once you start swimming, you’ll see how quickly it will warm up!
